These are the before and after photos of the projects that have been (and will be) going on in the 130+ year old Victorian House since I purchased the house. From Stenciling the walls to painting murals, and furniture. You can see the before and after photos, and keep up with the latest projects as they happen here at the site of dddavids Ghost Cams.



Once you have accomplished your first DIY Project, and you see the results, it will be easier to move on to the next project. You can really transform your life by transforming your living space.

Victorian Dining Room Before Makeover

In this project I need to give you a little background into the house. When I purchased the home it had been separated in to 2 rental units for quite some time. It had an apartment downstairs, and one upstairs. In this project I am in what use to be the kitchen in the upstairs (long ago it was a bedroom), and I needed it to look more like it would have way back when. It occured to me that paint is always the least expensive way to transform anything, so why not a floor.


I started by measuring thoroughly cleaning the floor to prep it for paint. I then gave it 2 coats of a brown porch paint. I thought that type of paint would be more durable to foot traffic.

The next step was to paint the the stencil pattern around the floor, as well as a stencil border. Making sure to measure evenly the space between the stencil pattern, and keep in straight lines.

I finished this project by giving the floor a coat of polyurethane, not only to seal and protect it, but to make it shiny as well. I think it turned out very nice looking, and very much in keeping with the Victorian period!
